Day 2 | Douro Valley in the Presidential Train
Discover the Douro Valley aboard the luxurious Presidential train (The one-day trip by presidential train costs  800€ euros per person) This is the best luxury experience in the country, redesigned for each edition, to bring the greatest culinary talents of the world to the most beautiful corners of Portugal, aboard the most incredible train of our history. THE MAGNIFICENT PORTUGUESE PRESIDENTIAL TRAIN The crown jewel of Portugal’s railway, the Presidential Train has hosted Kings, Presidents, Heads of State and Popes for over a century. Built in 1890, it served the court of King D. Luis I as the Portuguese Royal Train, transporting dignitaries like Queen Elizabeth II and Pope Paul VI. Renamed The Presidential Train at the turn of the century, it proudly transported Portugal’s Heads of State until 1970, when it was officially retired. In 2010 the emblematic train was magnificently restored to its luxurious standard, maintaining the original furnishing and style that made it iconic, and has since been showcased in the National Railway Museum as the most important peace of our railway history. Retrieved from the past, the Presidential Train is moving again. All aboard!
THE BEST KEPT TREASURE OF THE ALTO DOURO The Presidential provides the unique opportunity to visit the private Quinta do Vesúvio and authentically experience the largely lost art of winemaking. The enchanting Quinta is so special that it remains one of the few properties the Symington family chooses to keep closed to the public– which makes walking its grounds a rare privilege. The haunting estate has always stood out, and was also favored by Dona Antónia, one of the most iconic figures in the Douro history. At Vesúvio, far up in the Douro River, the work of man and the work of nature achieve a perfect and enduring harmony, that does not fade with time. Built in 1827 and unchanged since then, the rustic 19th century property retains its primitive charm and grandeur. The winery boasts of a longstanding reputation for producing remarkable wines, specializing in Vintage Ports and Douro D.O.C red wines. As part of The Presidential Experience, guests are invited to discover the Quinta, taste wines directly from the tonels and enjoy a classic foot treading ceremony, in one of the last places where foot treading is still practiced.
PROGRAM  March  to October 2024 Our guide will take you to the São Bento Train Station in Porto. The trip starts at 11:30 AM. The trip will end at São Bento station at approximately 9.30 pm.
