NORTH OF PORTUGAL - COIMBRA | PORTO |
On this day the destination is the Center and the North of Portugal. we will visit two of the most beautiful and important Portuguese cities. Coimbra, the students' city and Oporto, capital of the North and capital of the Port Wine. |
Spend the morning in Coimbra. Free time to visit the city and its medieval university, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. Coimbra is one of the most beautiful Portuguese cities, for its numerous historical monuments, Medieval Churches and the beautiful and important Joanine Library!
LUNCH IN COIMBRA
Departure to Porto, famous for its world famous wine and its cultural heritage. You can make the "Cruise Under the 6 bridges" on the River Douro, on a Rabelo boat, which was used to transport the barrels with port wine. Ending this tour, we suggest a visit to a Port Wine Cellar, followed by a tasting of these wines appreciated all over the world.
At the end of the day, relax on one of the many cafes on the famous "Ribeira" and enjoy the scenery by the river.

GUIMARÃES | AMARANTE | FREIXIEL |
Begin the day discovering Guimarães, the place where the nation of Portugal was born. We then visite Amarante, a lovely town. Stroll through the historic center.Walk through the old streets, see the typical houses and the history that the city tell us. Finally, rest in the picturesque village of Freixiel, inhabited since prehistoric times. As you walk through the alleys of the village, notice the granite houses with flowery balconies and admire the landscape marked by olive groves and vineyards: it is in the Douro Demarcated Region! |
GUIMARÃES | Departure to Guimarães, a city known as the «cradle of the Portuguese nation», whose historical center is classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. Free time to explore the historic center, Castle and Ducal Palace.
Later, departure towards AMARANTE. Have lunch in this incredible city.
AMARANTE | All visitors to Amarante will most certainly be impressed by two imposing natural features: the great Serra do Marão rising above the city in a series of majestic landscapes and the River Tâmega, the longest tributary of the river Douro, whose journey begins in Galicia and which flows through the heart of Amarante, giving added colour to the picturesque houses standing on its banks.
FREIXIAL | In the afternoon, depart do Freixiel village, where we will overnight in a rural hotel. In Freixial you can taste local products such as wine, olive oil and pork sausages, all produced on the farm where you will be staying.

SORTELHA | Sortelha is one of the most beautiful and ancient villages of Portugal; Crowned by a castle, set in a formidable rocky complex at 760 m altitude. Sortelha keeps intact its medieval features in the architecture of its granite rural houses. A walk through the streets and alleys of the borough, surrounded by 13th century castle walls, allows the visitor to return to the past centuries, among the medieval graves, near the Manueline pillory or before the old Renaissance church.
MONSANTO | Free time to discover this traditional village and its Templar Castle. In the plains of Beira interior region, between the foothills of Serra da Gardunha and the river Ponsul, which define in its geography, climate and fauna the transition between North and South of Portugal, stands on a high mountain the historic village of Monsanto. The village offers the most interesting human landscapes that can be found in Portugal. The cluster is developed on the slope of the peak using granite boulders for the walls of the houses and in some cases a single block of stone forms the roof, reason why here it is said that “here, the houses have only one tile on the rooftop”. The difficult hike to the castle is largely offset by one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the area.

DISCOVERING ALTO ALENTEJO | MARVÃO, CASTELO DE VIDE and ALTER DO CHÃO |
We finally arrived in Alto Alentejo. Visit some of the most emblematic places of this region. Castelo de Vide appears to us full of charm, where the gardens abound and a luxuriant vegetation. This village of whitewashed houses and narrow streets in the sidewalk, keep one of the most important Jewish quarters in Portugal. Very close to the Spanish border, we find the charming village of Marvão, surrounded by ancient walls, where you can breathe peace and tranquility. End the day in the calm and serene village of Alter do Chão, whose origins date back to Roman times. In this village are created the pure "Lusitano" horses. |
CASTELO DE VIDE | Visit the magnificent village of Castelo de Vide, built on a promontory. Visits included: thermal baths, the historic center with its 17th century houses, the Medieval Castle, the Jewish quarter and the Synagogue. We continue to the charming fortified village of Marvão. Free time to explore this village located on the top of an imposing mountain with 865 meters of altitude.
LUNCH IN CASTELO DE VIDE
ALTER DO CHÃO | After lunch, we leave for Alter do Chão. It is a small and quiet village, whose origins go back to the time of the Romans. Visit to the Royal Stud Farm d'Alter. Founded in 1748, it is known worldwide as an emblematic area, where a pure line of the Lusitano Horse is raised, generally considered the "Portuguese horse" par excellence.

ALENTEJO | ESTREMOZ, ARRAIOLOS and ÉVORA

ESTREMOZ | On this day we set out to Estremoz, ancient Arab city of the time of the Christian conquests. It can be said that the city is divided into two parts: the upper part with the Castle, and the lower part more modern. Visit the city and its historical monuments. After the visit to the city, you can have an experience of wine tasting and gastronomy in a famous Wine Cellar of the region.
ARRAIOLOS | We continue to Arraiolos, famous for its wool rugs, handmade from motifs of the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries. These hand-crafted pieces of history allowed the recognition of these carpets as real works of art. We visit the interpretation center of the Rugs of Arraiolos. Free visit to the Village and to the Rug shops.
Continue to the capital of Alentejo: ÉVORA, another World Heritage Site classified by UNESCO. End of the day free to visit the city of Évora.

ÉVORA | SÃO PEDRO DO CORVAL | REGUENGOS DE MONSARAZ |
Do not miss the Alentejo plains of view. We continue our journey through the tranquility of the Alentejo towns, in an endless discovery of their traditions, culture, history and people. |
ÉVORA | During the morning we’ll have a walking tour in Évora, historical and cultural center of the Alentejo region. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Évora was an important artistic and cultural center. Its historical center is classified as a UNESCO world heritage site, visit also its historical monuments, narrow streets, Gothic façades, Roman ruins and the Cathedral.
SÃO PEDRO DO CORVAL | Then we will visit São Pedro Do Corval, a town known for its hand painted pottery. Possibility to visit a traditional pottery, where you can observe the traditional process of making the traditional pieces in clay.
REGUENGOS DE MONSARAZ | After a short drive, we will reach Reguengos de Monsaraz, A village located only 9 km from Spain. Free time to explore this open air museum of very well preserved schist streets. They are also an important wine center, where you can taste the famous wines of the region.

BEJA and MÉRTOLA |
Although still in the Alentejo, we started down to the south of Portugal. In Alqueva, navigate one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe, and then immerse yourself in the vast history of Mértola, which was a Roman city, capital of an Arab kingdom and the first seat of the Order of Santiago. Do not miss a walk through Beja, where there is an atmosphere of peace and where we discover stories of conquest and hidden love. |
BEJA | We visit Beja in an atmosphere of peace and discover stories of conquests and lost loves. We begin with a visit to the Torre de Menagem (the Keep) of the Castle, which was so important in the battles to defend Portugal's borders. With its 40 metres of height and built entirely of marble, it is the landmark of Beja. It is worth your while to climb to the top, from which you can see the city and the surrounding countryside of the Alentejo.
MÉRTOLA | We end the day in the picturesque village of Mértola, of multicultural origins: Roman, Suevii and Arabs. Where the storks come to nest and the graceful white houses overlook the Guadiana, there is still the charm of a living museum waiting for you. After a time of forgetfulness, the village was revitalized thanks to the intervention of archaeologists who not only created an innovative concept of open museum, but incorporated it into the recovery of traditional arts.
A must see is the visit to the local Ateliers to discover some of the most traditional and authentic works of art. Take a trip through the flavors of Alentejo gastronomy, in one of the numerous local restaurants, while contemplating the riverside landscape.

CASTRO MARIM and SÃO BRÁS DE ALPORTEL |
Enjoy the morning to continue the visit to the village of Mértola, and then continue to Castro Marim, with its white houses and colorful flower beds. We then leave for São Brás De Alportel, a typical Algarve village in the south of Portugal. |
CASTRO MARIM | On top of one hill you’ve got the castle, on the other hill the star-shaped fort. Between the two are the white houses of Castro Marim, with colorful walls, terraces and lace chimneys. Joining the church, the castle and the fort, the streets of Castro Marim have houses that, in their simplicity, reflect typical Algarvian architecture. The always predominant white is broken by luminous ocher and blue. The facades of the houses speak well of the taste for geometric shapes or floral motifs. Who goes up to the castle of Castro Marim, can admire a landscape of water and hills on the opposite side. These are the mountains that challenge those who appreciate the great outdoors, are interested in identifying birds and plants, enjoy walking or cycling or contact with nature. Explore the vast architectural and cultural heritage of Castro Marim. Do not forget to visit the Salinas of that village.
SÃO BRÁS DE ALPORTEL | Welcome to this quiet and peaceful village with a warm welcoming population. The streets of white houses, with a silhouette of the bell tower of the church and the conch of hills surrounding the village are simple attractions of São Brás de Alportel, a typical Algarve village. From the low level whitewashed houses, to the beautiful noble houses decorated with tiles on the facades and wrought-iron balconies, all reveal the typical architecture from this region, and the past opulence of the cork industry.
Visit to a farm where of medicinal plants, as well as other rare plants used in the design of craft liquors.

ALGARVE | LAGOS, SILVES and SAGRES |
We finally reached the south. Here we find culture, tradition, heritage, history, fine wines and delicious cuisine, nature, breathtaking scenery, enchanting beaches and lots of sun! We will visit some of the most beautiful villages of the Algarve and we will end the day with our eyes under the vastness of the Ocean - Sagres - from where the courageous sailors and Portuguese conquerors departed towards new worlds. |
LAGOS | The journey continues through the Algarve. We visit the city of Lagos and discover the "Cape of Piety", cliffs and beaches of rare beauty. Visit to the Church of Santo António.
SILVES | Located on a hill in the Serra de Monchique chain, Silves owes its foundation and development to the Arade river. This was long an important means of communication attracting settlers as far back as the Iron Age, 3,000 years before Christ. Silves was the capital of the ancient Arab kingdom of Algarve, and its most important city. That era gave it a stately outline, the epitome of which is its red-hued castle, inviting exploration. Visit the local Castle. Considered the most beautiful military monument from Islamic in Portugal, this castle is also the largest in the Algarve.
SAGRES | We end the day in the village of Sagres, where you can visit the Sagres Fortress and learn more about the Portuguese discoveries.

SINTRA and CABO DA ROCA |
Sintra is an unforgettable place. So, on this day embark on a trip to this magical place, where we have a mountain full of royal palaces, a castle in ruins and several old houses, grandiose and imposing. Finally, throw the look over the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean from the top of the westernmost point of continental Europe, the Cabo da Roca, described by the great poet Luís de Camões as the place "where the land ends and the sea begins". |
We leave in the morning towards Sintra, exponent of the European romantic architecture and classified as a UNESCO world heritage site. Free discovery of the typical streets of the village, the National Palace of Sintra and the Palace of Pena, with its unmistakable vivid colors perched at 500 meters above sea level.We continue to Cabo Da Roca, which is the westernmost point of Continental Europe.
About 150 meters from sea-level, here you can have a comprehensive view of the Serra de Sintra and the coast, which makes it worth the visit. It is integrated in the Natural Park of Sintra-Cascais and is one of the reasons of interest of the footpaths that can be done here along the coast.
We then return to Lisbon following the coast road, from where you can contemplate the beauty of the Atlantic coast. In the evening you can dine while watching a Fado concert, a typical Portuguese song, an integral part of Lisbon culture.
