XV International Exhibition of Conventual Sweets & Spirits
ALCOBAÇA - CAPITAL OF CONVENT SWEETS
Alcobaça has the splendor of monastic centuries in its DNA. From the 12th century to the 19th century Cistercian monks and nuns
imprinted its mark on local heritage, in particular convent sweets that makes us so proud and puts the region at the forefront of tourism and heritage
promotion. Proof of this is the International Exhibition of Conventual Sweets & Spirits, that since 15 years ago has raising Alcobaça as the Capital of
Conventual Confectionery.
The monastic tradition, true delicacies created through numerous experiences of long practice and dedication, patience and devotion, which over the
centuries have been surrounded by secrecy, are annually made available to visitors.
From 14 to 17 November, the Monastery of Alcobaça hosts over 40 national and international participants, including Portuguese convents and monasteries
(Alcobaça, Arouca, Aveiro, Beja, Leiria, Lorvão, Ovar, Portimão, Tentúgal), Spainish monasteries, abbeys of Brittany and Normandy (France), Belgium and
Poland, with an extra surprise, the participation of the only living Cistercian Nuns in Portugal.
As the wealth of the Monastery of Alcobaça is endless, this year the show will be held in the Cloister of Rachadouro (usually forbidden to public), where
once worked the workshops, the archive, and the library.
Accept the challenge and taste the best convent delights all assembled in just historical space.
